Big Ear

I've been sidelined by a HUGE EAR and I mean huge. The left ear was about twice as big as my right on Tuesday. Doctor wasn't sure what it was but the betting money was on an insect or an arachnid bite. Whatever. It was itchy on Monday afternoon and by Tuesday morning, the ear was throbbing with pain. So to cover all bases I was on antibiotics, antihistamine and Aleve for fever reducing. Yes, I was also running a 99.6 Deg. F. temp. So the whole week was not so good for any physical activity. I was tired and sleepy most of the time. By Friday, it started to feel much better and am now proud owners of two equal sized ears.

I tried to go running late this afternoon. I was no match for this "dry" heat.

"I'm here to make a deposit..."

Yes, making a deposit into my relationship bank account. I went to watch Pierce Brosnan sing ABBA ballards. I was dead tired Saturday night and the 7 pm show was sold out so there I was for the 9:50 PM showing, after taking the family out to dinner at Macaroni Grill. Not as good as the musical but it's a nice escape from reality and I get a few "Get out of jail cards." There was a line for Batman and there was a line for ABBA. You could tell right away which was which because all the hipsters were waiting for the Dark Knight while the baby boomers were waiting on the other line.

Looong Run

Slowly coming back to form. Lately, my weekday runs are taking place after work and that means temps in the 90's. So what ever the temp was this morning at 5:44, it was feeling pretty good. All relative I suppose. I ran down Greenbridge, east on Research, south on Cochran's Crossing, west on Lake Woodlands, west on Sterling Ridge, North on Bear Branch, East on Research, back north on Greenbridge to home. 13 plus miles. On Sterling Ridge, about half a mile before Bear Branch, I was over taken by a bunch of Green Woodlands Fitters. Green runners are the fast variety and it was surreal as I heard their foot falls on concrete and got closer and closer. It was like I was the "prey" and them the galloping horde of some kind. They eventually overtook me. Their Coach Dan Green was in the lead and said "Hi." I had one lady runner ask me if I was that blogger guy. I forgot to ask her for her name... Sorry! But they were all passing me by so there wasn't much time for conversation. Then I met the sweeper dude, an assistant coach and a yellow runner who I guess is thinking about joining the Green group. I ran with them for about a mile and half at around 9 ~ 9:15 pace. I forgot their names.... But I know the assistant coach is like a 3:30 marathoner so Boston is pretty close to his realm. The green runners were doing 6 today.

The best part of long distance? After burning about 1500 calories, I get to eat whatever I want today.

Snooze button came in handy..... 9 mile run morphed into a 4 miler since I had other obligations to contend with. So rather than a 5 am start, it was later and shorter. Not that I mind shorter in this weather.

Time of Day: 6:33 AM
Distance: 4.26 miles
Time: 40 min 09 secs
Pace: 9:25 min/miles
Shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7 - 166 miles total on these shoes
Weight: 174 lbs.
Calories burned: 543.4 kcal

Still a little slower than I'd like but it was a classic negative splitting clinic today.

Mile 1: 9:57
Mile 2: 9:27
Mile 3: 9:16
Mile 4: 9:15
0.26: 2:14 (8:39 pace)

It was a lot cooler than yesterday at 8 am when the RTW started and thus a tinsy bit more bearable. But it feels good to sweat it out - that is, after the post run shower.

Bunch of folks showed up today. It was HOT!! By the end of Mile 1, I wanted to call it a day. By the end of mile 2, I wanted to just stop and crawl but by then, the best course of action was to get to the finish line as soon as possible and try to cool off.

Time: 26 min 29 secs
Pace: 8:33 min/miles
Shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7 - 161.7 miles total on these shoes
Weight: 174 lbs.
Calories burned: 395.6 kcal

Next up, a 9 miler at 5 am tomorrow. If I make it out of bed.

It's July all of a sudden. Hello everyone! Feels like I've been gone a very long time. I've gotten back to running after a long hiatus due to shin splints and other personal issues. Well, it's all behind me now and am back pounding the concrete around The Woodlands.

Time of Day: 6:37 PM
Distance: 4.64 miles
Time: 44 min 42 secs
Pace: 9:38 min/miles
Shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7 - 158.6 miles total on these shoes
Weight: 174 lbs.
Calories burned: 591.8 kcal

Nothing like running in the warm afternoon heat. So long as I keep to a slower pace, it feels O.K. Can't say the same about my running shoes' sole though. It's melting away on the hot concrete.

I think I can make it to the RTW 5K this Saturday. It feels good to get back on some kind of routine.

Thanks for all those kind words!
